The cities Transport bosses are planning to make major changes to public transport in the city centre. The plans to introduce cross city bus travel are part of £1.5 billion transport improvements over the coming years.They are looking at changing sections of Portland Street and Princess Street to restrict use by through traffic.

There would also be a number of improvements to the road network along Princess Street, where Oxford Road and Upper Brook Street connect to central Manchester. These changes are designed to particularly help buses get across the city centre to and from Oxford Road.

“These are the biggest transport investment plans for decades, and they represent some major changes. I want to make sure that city centre residents are properly consulted on the changes, particularly in areas where they live”, said Cllr Elaine Boyes,  city centre Lib Dem Councillor.

A booklet is also being delivered to all residents and businesses in the city centre as part of a major consultation programme.
